Purpose Is Your Profit

Purpose is a two-pronged commitment:
1) internal to the company, and 2) client-facing.

Purpose begins at home, with your employees. If they know why they are working with you, they are more likely to do well. In other words, when you stand for something beyond your products and services, you contribute to the greater good.

What’s In It For Me?

There’s nothing like unleashing your own potential. Not because of how you’ll feel and who you will become as a result (though that is all well and good).  The real reason to unleash your potential is so that others will be inspired and motivated to do the same.

It’s Not About You

I’m working with a friend in L.A. who is up to something big and important. She is gearing up for the launch of her great new book, I’ll be sure to write about that in a future post. During our last phone call, I could feel the angst, frustration, and overwhelm in her voice. I recognized it because I often have to talk myself through the same rough patches.

Are You Hoarding or Sharing?

I’m reading the “The Start-up of You,” by cofounder and chairman of LinkedIn, Reid Hoffman.  Ostensibly, it’s a book about retooling yourself to adapt and transform your career.  Hoffman, and co-writer, Ben Casnocha use their experience with LinkedIn to link the strategies of start-ups with the career strategies of highly successful people.  They are clearly on to something – and whether you’re interested in learning how to propel yourself or your business, the book offers great insight.  And I’m only on page 31.

What You Do When No One Is Looking

There are a lot of advantages to flying under the radar while you’re getting your business up-to-speed. And it’s when no one is looking that you might be tempted to loosen the discipline strings or play fuzzy around the edges. Don’t do it!

Interview Yourself

If you’re like me, you traverse the internet daily (hourly!) absorbing everything you can to help you build a better business. What sticks with you? What touches you? What changes you forever? Hint: it’s the one thing that you can never get enough of, no matter what.

Like a Hawk

When you dare to live into your true potential, it often feels like you’re all alone, and way out there on the skinny branches of life. You have a vision. You know you’re capable of doing great things. But the very notion of life keeps your true potential at bay. Or so it seems. You need to make a living. Maybe you have children or elderly parents to take care of. Eventually, your goals and dreams feel selfish and unattainable.
